Don't confuse it with

し runs top to bottom and hooks up at the end; つ runs left to right. Turn the page ninety degrees and they are the same stroke.

Watch out

Romanised shi, never si. The chart predicts si because every other cell in the row works that way, but the sound does not exist in Japanese.
